I’m visiting my mentor, patriarch of Natural Golf, good ole “Murray” Moe Norman. It’s in the winter of the early ’90s. We’re on the range when we turned around and noticed a young lady hitting bunker shots. He said to me, “I want you to see this gal hit shots. She’s the Canadian Junior Champion, 18 years old from French Canada.” As we walked towards the sand trap I noticed she was wearing headphones and toiling away not noticing us. We got up behind the sand trap and looked down at her as she was hitting many bunker shots. Moe said, “Look! Look! What do you see? What do you see?” I described the obvious. Good posture, great execution and that her shots were piling up around the flag. Moe said, “That’s not what I see. Not what I see. I see the elbow leads the wrist, the wrist leads the hand, the hand leads the club head and the heel leads the toe.”

The heel of the club LEADS the TOE of the club from the start of the down swing RIGHT THROUGH THE BALL….is how it should FEEL..!

Ball position is key to hitting high and low shots. If the ball in farther up in your stance, it goes higher, and if it’s back in your stance it goes lower. A 7 iron should be in the center, a pitching wedge in the center or a little back in your stance, and a 3 iron a little up in your stance. Also, check your hands. If at impact your hands are in front of your clubhead, that is very very good. Perhaps your buddies are hitting the ball too high and you are hitting your ball at a good height. Either way, if your want a higher ball flight just move your ball ahead in your stance. It will take quite a bit of time to hit good shots like this, but keep it up.

You need to have a steeper angle of attack to get the ball higher in the air. If you have a flat swing, you’re not going to hit the ball as high as you’d like. Typically shorter players have more upright swings and taller players have flatter swings. You could get a high launch shaft in your irons(Project X makes it). I notice if I make solid contact, I hit the ball plenty high. It may be that you’re not making proper contact. That happens when you come out of your stance too soon. Without seeing your swing, it’s hard to say what your issue is.

open your stance and club face tho you have to practice to get the direction, I played with a guy that hit his driver 100yds and landed it just before the water, miss shot but it was better than my wedge shots.

When you set up feel like your head is positioned behind the ball more than usual, and when you follow through feel like that when you hit the ball that your club head is coming up from underneath the ball. Make sure that when you do this, you turn your shoulders some so you don’t hit a fade/slice.
